DHL Global Forwarding, the freight specialist arm of DeutschePost DHL Group, has been tasked to bring in the newly approvedCovid-19 antiviral pills to South Korea to bolster its fightagainst the pandemic. The logistics Group has been heavily involvedin the transportation of Covid-19 vaccines worldwide, shipping wellover 1.8 billion shipments of vaccines across 174 countries.

“Across the Group, it’s been a privilege to be part of theglobal fight against the pandemic. Our network around the worldbanded together to make the fastest, smoothest delivery of Covid-19vaccines worldwide possible. Now, we’re doing the same with thelatest antiviral pills said to significantly lessen theseverity of the disease for patients and the community. We arehonored to deliver this important shipment to South Korea, thefirst country in Asia Pacific to receive the Covid -19 antiviralpills,” said SP Song, Managing Director, DHL Global ForwardingKorea.

“Unlike the shipments of Covid-19 vaccines, which were requiredto be shipped under specific temperature and dry ice conditions,the transportation of the antiviral pills are akin to regularpharmaceutical goods transported at a range of 15-25 degreeCelsius, re limited bespoke logistics arrangements.”

DHL managed the transport of the antiviral pills from theproduction sites in Germany to Belgium, where the shipmentundergoes value-added thermal packaging before being transported toits destination in South Korea.

　　The company’s Franklin Park 69,000 sq. ft. internationalexport gateway opened on July 17, 2021, and includes a TSAscreening area. The company will continue processing domesticparcel shipments from its second Illinois location in MelrosePark.

　　West Coast export gateway location

　　DHL eCommerce Solutions’ Whittier distribution center openedat the end of 2020 and expanded in August 2021. The Whittierlocation extended by 100,000 sq. ft. directly next door to itscurrent location, where international parcels and packages arebeing processed.

　　Northeast export gateway location

　　The international export gateway in Carteret will open inSeptember 2021. The new permanent 50,000 sq. ft. building willinclude a TSA cargo screening area. DHL eCommerce Solutions openedits first fully automated distribution center in Avenel, New Jerseyin November 2018 and will continue to process domestic shipmentsfrom this location.

　　DHL eCommerce Solutions currently has 19 distribution centersand three corporate offices in the United States with approximately4,200 employees. The division is focused 100 percent on servicingB2C online merchants, shipping lightweight packages and parcelsdomestically and internationally.
