UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced the company will commemorate WorldEnvironment Day on June 5 by matching the carbon offsets of allpackages shipped via its carbon neutral program during the month ofJune. UPS carbon neutral counterbalances the estimated carbonimpact of each shipment by purchasing certified carbon offsets.
“There is truly no better way to honor World Environment Day thanto facilitate actions that will help the planet,” said SuzanneLindsay-Walker, UPS chief sustainability officer (CSO) and vicepresident of environmental affairs. “UPS hopes to create moreawareness about our carbon neutral shipping option so additionalcustomers will take advantage of it, thus helping to fundlarge-scale carbon reduction programs and reduce the total carbonimpact of shipping on the environment.”
To participate, shippers pay a small fee to offset the carbonfootprint of shipping their packages then UPS will match theseoffsets throughout June. This is essentially doubling the shipper’simpact thereby allowing the shipper to potentially net out “carbonnegative” in June. The per package flat rate price for the optionalservice is $0.05 for UPS® ground services and $0.20 for UPS NextDay Air®, UPS 2nd Day Air® and UPS 3 Day Select® services.
